The world of little white labels

b2ap3_thumbnail_label.jpgThe Label in the workplace is so underestimated until it is no longer there.   Zebra labels do their job well, they perform as required and do exactly what is expected of them;  but then get into huge amounts of trouble when the last roll runs out, the operator panics as they know that was the last one in the box.  Cue a panic phone call/email to your label supplier ensues, as work has ground to a halt, whilst more insignificant labels can be sourced fast!    So are they insignificant, or can we do more to stop companies running out?  And believe me, you will be surprised how many of our customers make that panic call!!

Before we get into the way in which Datalinx have incorporated GS1 into our warehouse management applications, it is worth taking a moment to look at what GS1 is about and what it means to the businesses in the supply chain.

Embracing the power and capabilities of the GS1 Standard

GS1 is both an organisation and today a synonym for a barcode standard. GS1 as an organisation has, in the UK a community of over 28,000 members and is one of 111 independent, not-for-profit GS1 organisations operating across 150 countries.


GS1 help everyone involved in making, moving and trading goods to automate and standardise their supply chain processes using the common language of GS1 Global Standards and  GS1 are now bringing these same standards to the healthcare supply chain....

Barcode Printing

You're interested in a barcode tracking system, but you want to know what equipment you are likely to need. As a starting point most businesses I work with use the following:

  •  Barcode scanner/mobile scanning computer - model dependent on your system and requirements
  •  Stock Control / Inventory Control /Barcode tracking software
  •  Barcode label software package (dependant on your requirements)
  •  Barcode label printer

The number of barcode scanners you require, obviously depends on your business setup and staff. If you work a shift pattern then you may decide to share scanners between shifts(cutting your initial outlay).
